The Beef Northwest Youth Livestock Program is built for 4-H and FFA students in Morrow County who are interested showing a steer for the first time, but lack access or experience. We front the cost of the animal, the feed, and all the supplies — then walk students through the whole process, from first day of care to the county fair ring.
That guidance doesn’t come and go. Every student works with a designated Program Coordinator through the entire project, covering livestock management, nutrition, and showmanship along the way.
What students gain
A steer, a mentor and a real shot in the ring.
Students get direct, one-on-one coaching from their Program Coordinator — the kind of hands-on instruction that usually takes years of family experience to pick up. Here it’s built into the program from day one, from showmanship to cattle nutrition.
By fair time, they’ll be prepared to show at the county fair and have a broader understanding of the production ag industry — a real introduction to livestock management, ag industry and particularly its significance in Morrow County.
Who can apply
4-H and FFA students in Morrow County, Oregon, interested in showing a steer for the first time but who may lack necessary access and resources.
Timeline: Applications open Nov. 1st. Candidates are selected around mid December.
